Fugue Formal
A downloadable game
It’s time again for Fugue High School’s annual spring dance. Among the streamers and crepe paper ribbons, an unnameable malevolence hangs over the gymnasium.
This is a collaborative story game inspired by the work of David Lynch. I took particular inspiration from Twin Peaks, particularly the strange cast of teenaged characters. The story structure and general surreal fugue state concept was influenced by Lynch's movies Inland Empire, Lost Highway, and Mulholland Drive.
In this game you will work together to weave a surreal and unsettling story. Players will take turns describing scenes set around the school dance. The story will reference a terrible half-remembered event without fully describing it. Some scenes might follow a coherent narrative while others move in strange directions.
